The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia opened a new branch entirely run by female employees yesterday.
Speaking during the inauguration, CBE President and CEO Ato Bacha Gina said women have been under-represented until recently in all sectors of the economy despite their enormous contribution to the economy.
Empowering women to take part in all economic sectors is essential to achieve development objectives, he added.
He further revealed that similar all-women branches will be opened in major regional states.
Ato Bacha also said preparations are well underway to launch a special credit facility for women with the view to enhancing women entrepreneurship.
It is to be recalled that the bank has been providing saving account service exclusively designed for women since March 2014.
The newly inaugurated all-women branch is named after the seasoned banker Leikun Berhanu.
Ato Leikun Berhanu said on the occasion he was very honored to see a branch named after him in recognition of his over 42 years services in the banking industry.
