CBE Holds Anniversary Panel Discussion

As part of the bank’s 75th anniversary celebration, CBE held panel discussion at Zagwe Hall on Thursday, June 21, 2018.
Researchers from Wolayta Sodo, Mekelle, Civil Service universities as well as Mekelle Institute of Technology presented papers dealing with the financial sector of Ethiopia.

CBE Names Branches after Former Presidents

The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia has named two of its branches after former CBE presidents. Accordingly, a new branch situated around Ayer Tena was named after Alemu Abera, President of the bank from 1980 – 1992. Similarly, the newly opened branch around Tewdros Square was also named after Tilahun Abay, president of the bank from 1992 – 2002.

Winners of Foreign Exchange Promotion Program Announced

Winners of the 12th round foreign exchange promotion program were announced on May 18, 2017. Executives of CBE, officials of the National Lottery Administration and invited guests attended the ceremony held at the National Lottery. A minibus, 16 television sets and 32 smart mobile phones were distributed to the winner customers.

CBE Reviews Nine-Month Performance

The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia has reviewed its nine months performance for the fiscal year 2017/18 at Bahir Dar. The bank has mobilized 71.5 billion birr and disbursed 63.7 billion birr fresh loan during the stated period. To provide access to customers, the bank also opened 40 new branches in various parts of the country. Following the opening of the new branches and the implementation of other initiatives as stipulated in the bank’s deposit mobilization strategy, more than 2.1 million customers were recruited during the past 9 months.

CBE launches mobile money platform

click for full sizeCommercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) officially launched its mobile money services dubbed CBE Birr on December 11, 2017 after successfully testing its functionality for six months. CBE Birr is a mobile based banking whereby the bank selects, trains and authorizes agents to provide banking services on behalf of the bank through a mobile phone. It is deployed as a means of extending financial services to the unbanked segment of the public.
