The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) has awarded exporters, Money Transfer Operators (MTOs) and service agencies for their outstanding performance at a special event held at Sheraton Addis Hotel on February 13, 2017.
Some 127 organizations that have generated more than 1 million USD during their operation in the 2015/16 budget year received the award. The year’s special awards went to MIDROC Gold and Western Union Money Transfer.
His Excellency Ato Bereket Simon, Chairman  of CBE Board of Directors and PM’s Advisor for Policy Research with a rank of minister, pointed out on the occasion that the export sector will continue to have a central role in the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP), which aims at transforming the country to a middle income status.
He noted that the foreign currency generated from the sector has to increase steadily each year and support development in the other sectors. According to the chairman, the government has put various policies and support packages in place to attain the objectives set for the sector. He thus urged exporters to work hard towards exporting value-added commodities to the international market.
Ato Bekalu Zeleke, President of the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, on his part remarked that CBE is working hard to make sure that companies in the commodity and service export sector are properly supported.
He added that the Bank has implemented successful initiatives to make banking services easily available and bring service quality to the required level.
Ministers, high government officials, exporters and MTOs working with CBE and invited guests attended the event.
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia organizes Exporters’ Day every year to recognize and encourage investors in the export sector and MTOs working with the Bank.
