The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia on April 26, 2012 donated 500,000 birr to Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia.

The Bank made the donation at a ceremony organized to congratulate Dr. Catherine Hamlin, founder of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia, on receiving honorary citizenship from the Government of Ethiopia in recognition of her 53 years service to Ethiopian women.

After handing over the cheque to Dr. Catherine Hamlin, Ato Abay Mehari, Vice President of Credit Management with the CBE said "the CBE, as a public enterprise, goes way beyond widening its profit margin."

He said the Bank espouses values cherished by the general public and supports good causes.
Ato Abay said the Bank will continue supporting the various initiatives being undertaken by the organization to treat and prevent obstetric fistula in Ethiopia.

The CBE had donated 200,000 birr to Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia some seven months ago.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, the CBE is carrying out  significant initiatives from health care to education to community development.
